It’s time to say goodbye to Thailand — The White Lotus has gone from strength to strength as a TV phenomenon, attracting a loyal audience and entertaining millions as they watch a murder mystery play out among the rich, twisted and miserable on their holidays.
But with the shocking events of season three now in the rear-view mirror, our experts have selected seven great shows to fill the White Lotus-shaped hole in your life… we select the best TV to help keep viewers entertained as they wait to find out about the location for season four.
The Perfect Couple (2024, Netflix)
Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber
Swap Thailand for the shores of affluent Nantucket in New England, where Nicole Kidman plays a novelist living in a luxurious beachfront property, surrounded by a loving family. But as the eve of a prestigious wedding unfolds, the idyllic façade begins to crack. Guests are revelling, and everyone is having a good time — until one of them is found floating in the harbour after the rehearsal dinner. No one is above suspicion as seeds of doubt are sown while clues and misdirections are delivered through police interviews. This is an enjoyable murder mystery mixed with sharp commentary on the lives of the super-rich.
Big Little Lies (2017–2019, Neon/Now)
Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz
The casting team behind The White Lotus has a knack for assembling standout ensembles. Want another? Try this mystery drama with an A-list cast at the top of their game. In a seemingly perfect community rocked by the death of a resident, five doting mothers navigate a web of toxic gossip and fierce rivalries. Based on Liane Moriarty’s bestselling novel, the seven-part series unfolds with biting wit and emotional punch — often colliding at the school gates.
The Resort (2022, Prime Video)
Cristin Milioti, William Jackson Harper
William Jackson Harper and Cristin Milioti star as Noah and Emma, a couple attending a marriage-healing retreat at a luxurious resort in Mexico. Celebrating their tenth anniversary, their relationship has become strained: Noah is content with the status quo, while Emma doesn’t feel the same. But their indulgent getaway takes a dramatic turn when Emma stumbles into a ravine, unearthing an old mobile phone belonging to a college student who went missing in 2007. Much like The White Lotus, this series explores the hidden darkness behind the façade of luxury, unravelling secrets that challenge both the couple’s relationship and the resort’s idyllic veneer.
Search Party (2016–2022, Apple TV+)
Alia Shawkat
A group of people entangled in a mystery? Dive into this dark comedy about a narcissistic twenty-something (Alia Shawkat) who learns that someone she barely knew at university has gone missing. Determined to help, she and her equally ridiculous friends embark on a misguided quest to uncover the truth. A parody of self-absorbed millennials, this show explores how obsession and privilege distort perspective — a theme White Lotus fans will find all too familiar. Plus, Parker Posey makes a memorable cameo.
Enlightened (2011–2013, Sky/Neon)
Laura Dern
Long before The White Lotus, creator Mike White gave us this underrated gem. Laura Dern plays a corporate careerist whose life unravels — a divorce from a drug abuser, a toxic relationship with her mother, and an affair with her boss — before undergoing a spiritual transformation. But her new ‘enlightened’ self is met with resistance from those closest to her. This brilliantly crafted show captures Dern’s full dramatic and comedic range, earning her a well-deserved Golden Globe.
Fleishman Is in Trouble (2023, Disney+)
Jesse Eisenberg, Claire Danes
Much of The White Lotus’ appeal comes from its smart exploration of relationships — and this series captures similar energy. Based on Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s novel, it follows New York hepatologist Toby Fleishman (Jesse Eisenberg) as he navigates the chaos of divorce, parenthood, and dating apps. With standout performances — especially from Claire Danes — this series examines love, resentment and self-worth in modern relationships.
The Night Manager (2016–, Apple TV+)
Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman
Returning for a second series next year, this classy adaptation of John le Carré’s spy thriller was a global hit on arrival. Directed by Susanne Bier (The Undoing), it stars Tom Hiddleston as a hotel night manager turned undercover agent, alongside a stellar cast that includes Hugh Laurie, Olivia Colman and Elizabeth Debicki. Just like The White Lotus, it peels back the glamour of luxury travel to reveal dark and dangerous secrets — all with gripping tension and unforgettable performances.
