In his home at 20 Northmoor Road, Oxford, J.R.R Tolkein wrote The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. A dedicated following of J.R.R Tolkein fans, known as Project Noorthmoor, are seeking to buy Tolkein’s home in Oxford and turn it into a literary centre — a place of creativity and inspiration. There is currently no place dedicated to Tolkein anywhere, so the project seeks to purchase the home, renovate it to its former glory. They want to avoid the creation of a dry museum, and turn it into a place that will inspire writers, artists, and filmmakers into the future, while engaging with the global community who may not be able to visit the home itself.
So, how are they doing it? In order to secure the house, the plan is to create a “Fellowship of Funders”. These people donate whatever they choose to the cause, and once they hit £4 million they’ll be able to buy the house. They’ve outlined what else they can do with extra money raised on their project page here.
If you’re interested in getting involved, head on over to the donation page today to learn more and donate to the cause.
