Following events at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland, the president of the JCA wrote to me this week with the disappointing news that our planned October conference with them in Auckland had to be postponed. Glenn said it was a matter of biting the bullet earlier rather than later, he continued:
The Executive of the JCA met last night and, as you might expect, one of the items for discussion was the Auckland Colloquium. I’m sure I don’t need to recite what has occurred over the last few weeks with respect to travel.
We decided, reluctantly, that the Auckland Colloquium should be postponed until 2022. This is most disappointing but given the current state of uncertainty, we had no choice. While a “bubble” allowing free travel may come into effect before October there will remain the possibility of suspension of travel at short notice. Thus, we were driven to the decision we made.
We will hold a Colloquium this year. It will be in Sydney or Brisbane. Any member of the JANZ will be most welcome, if travel from New Zealand is practical.
In our March newsletter, we will update you about their kind invitation to cross the ditch and join them at their ‘local’ colloquium.
This has also meant a slight delay in our organisation of the Wairakei gathering as we will invite their judges that can join us to come along. But hey, it’s a gathering, a chance to talk rather than be talked to, so plan to come along. Thank you for the expressions of interest. Keep them coming in to lara@janz.nz. And save the dates of 24–26 September 2021, book that leave, and do join us for a relaxing weekend with judges from around the country and maybe an Aussie or two!
