HIIT is a way of exercising that’s proving popular around the world. It stands for high-intensity interval training. It alternates short periods of intense exercise with short recovery breaks. The aim is to keep your heart rate up.
However, Les Mills international head of research, Bryce Hastings, has previously said that there needs to be industry-wide guidelines around HIIT training, as well as time limits for those doing these workouts. A study he was a part of stated that 30-40 minutes per week of HIIT working out is enough. He said doing more than this doesn’t mean your body will achieve more, and you’ll increase the risk of injury.
A HIIT workout can be carried out anywhere with minimal equipment. It can include boxing, floor exercises like lunges, or weight training can also be incorporated. Fitness experts suggest that when you include a HIIT workout into your exercise regime, you’ll see much faster results in terms of losing fat and achieving muscle tone.
