Jeff Smith and I attended the 63rd meeting of the Central Council of the IAJ which, this year, for the first time, was held online, between 11–12 September. Convened in Rome, Italy, it meant very early starts for us in the antipodes at 0030 until 0330 each day. There are now 94 member countries.

In regards to the main outcomes, on 11 September, Mr. José Igreja Matos, former First Vice President of the IAJ and President of the EAJ, was elected by acclamation as new President of the IAJ, while the past President, Mr. Tony Pagone, was nominated by acclamation Honorary President of the IAJ.
Members of the new presidency committee are Mr. Duro Sessa (First Vice President and President of the EAJ), Mr. Walter Barone (Vice President and President of the IBA Group), Mrs Allyson Duncan (Vice President and President of the ANAO Group), Mrs Marcelle Kouassi (Vice President and President of the African Group), Mrs Sabine Matejka, and Mr. Mikael Sjoberg (Vice Presidents and members of the board of the EAJ).
Mr. Giacomo Oberto, Secretary-General of the IAJ since 2012, was confirmed by acclamation in that position, together with his three deputies, Mr. D’Agostino, Mr. Gargiulo, and Mr. Aschettino.
Two new members joined the IAJ: the associations of Gabon and Philippines.
The proposal of amendment to the IAJ Constitution and Regulations, as well as the ratification of the PC decisions adopted during the pandemic, were successfully voted and accepted.
The Study Commissions renewed their boards and proposed the topics for next year.
