First, it was UNESCO this week seeking help in the design of judicial training on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and technology in courts, then the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC) wanted similar input. Methinks the age of AI in courts has arrived!
UNDOC wrote:
“The upheaval of the COVID-19 pandemic has spurred many jurisdictions to re-assess and re-vitalize their technological capabilities — the topic of AI is increasingly relevant as judiciaries seek ways to more effectively manage and recover from the pandemic. Your feedback will help us better understand the existing practices and also the needs of judiciaries in the area of AI, which is, as you know, one of the priority areas of the Network under its current 2020–21 workplan.”
The most excellent work of Noel Cocurullo in preparing us for the next work away from court pandemic event with his electronic court suite underscores we are up there with this trend. JANZ has asked David Harvey to keep a watching brief on these developments for us.
