Over the summer holiday season, there may be a chance for you to head out and explore some of New Zealand’s beautiful nature offerings. Here is a list of wonderful walks to explore throughout the country.

Tongariro Northern Circuit (Central North Island)

  • 43.1km loop

  • Intermediate level (3-4 days), but short walks are also available ranging from a few hours to a full day

  • Volcanic landscapes, panoramic views, alpine herb fields to forests

Abel Tasman Coast Walk (Nelson)

  • 60km one way

  • Intermediate level (3-5 days), but short walks are also available ranging from a few hours to a full day

  • See golden sand beaches, natural rock pools, a 47m suspension bridge, and keep an eye our for fur seals

Routeburn Track (Otago)

  • 33km one way

  • Intermediate level (2-4 days), but short walks are also available ranging from a few hours to a full day

  • Alpine gardens, views over mountain ranges and valleys, and river crossings

Paparoa Track (West Coast)

  • 55km one way

  • Intermediate (3 days), but short walks are also available ranging from a few hours to a full day

  • Alpine scenery, limestone karst landscapes, and rainforests
